    Status Update for 5/8/2026

Good morning! Thank You for being here.

Today’s ten cent question is “When do I stop screaming into the void”?

I’m being intentionally silly but it’s a serious question. There’s plenty to scream about this year. In a general way the question can apply to art, politics, life and even home repair. Is the screaming keeping us from dealing with the issue(s) or are we multi taskers?

We all know that I peeked at the news this morning and have already dropped one F-Bomb. that’s not today’s problem. I started asking the question because I was thinking about my personal health. Specifically my weight.

I’m vowing to not scream about my weight anymore. I’m doing something different now. It’s frustrating because I thought I was doing something before. That clearly wasn’t working anymore.

So now between dropping colorful four letter words around like bar dice I’ve taken up Tai Chi. I won’t be talking about that here. I don’t know anything about it yet. It’s fluid movement. That’s good for you. It could be square dancing and be as good for you in my opinion.

I’ve also started lifting light weights throughout the day. Again.. I know one thing about it. You move things either at a challenging weight or at a challenging amount of times. Repeat as needed. So I’m not telling you more about it.

I’m also going back to walking more. If you have questions about walking I can give you the advice my company commander gave me. Start with the left foot, follow with the right foot, repeat until the guy ahead of you stops.

Anyhow, I’ll also still be a frequent visitor to the void to deal with the home repairs for a bit longer.

    The Comics:

Let’s face facts, you can’t afford to drive to the office anymore. I dread filling up my lawnmower.

I hear aliens love M&M’s. I bet you can get a ride to mars if you have a bag of that.

Worst part of the week is when I have to put on pants to go into the office.

    Thanks for reading.

    Welcome to May!

May you have a wonderful Beltane if you celebrate. If not I will hoist a drink to you on Cinco De Mayo. I don’t either celebrate but there will be good food and drinks so I’ll be there.

Seems like a good time to remind people about the continued cycle of beginnings. You wake, you rise, you begin, you rest, and start the whole thing over again. It’s a beautiful thing. No matter what stumbling blocks you hit you always get the chance to begin again.

May is “the rise” portion of the cycle. Here up north I’ll be planting in the garden again soon.

Artistically I am always starting over. May used to be when I started convention prep. This year I’m only planning to go to the show and say hello to friends.

    The Comics:

If it’s not nailed down they will take it. If it is nailed down they will put their name on it.

Life on earth can be dangerous for a Sluggo. Best to get the most recent guidebook that you can find

Everything seems to break at the same time and it sucks.

I love how that rabbit turned out

    What I’m Reading/Doing:

I’m about halfway through The Kaiju Preservation Society. I’m really enjoying it. It’s been my bedtime book and I read a chapter a night.

I’m also listening to Old Man’s War so I guess I’m a little heavy on John Scalzi books lately.

We’re replacing the washer and dryer this week. I was going to have the washer fixed and the dryer replaced but suddenly the washer started running on it’s own.

    Status Updates:

I’m feeling silly again. This is good-ish. It means the bubble level that regulates my mood is where it should be. It also means that everyone gets bad jokes and poorly thought out puns.

    Sorry.

It also means that I’m reading more books. That’s almost always a good sign. If I read a little every day I’m usually a bit more on an even keel.

So if you have book recommendations I’d love to hear them.

    The Comics:

Thanks for being here with me on this ride. It’s been a year of “drinking from the hose” when looking for subjects to editorialize and honestly it feels like we’re drowning some days.

Pro-Tip: Check your surroundings before you get comfortable. That seat may be open only because everyone else knows it has the shaky leg.

Have you tried a new hobby… not the old one.. a new one. What would even be a new hobby today? Everything that sounds like a hobby is something hundreds of years old.

    What I’m Reading/Doing:

The Kaiju Preservation Society – John Scalzi

A laid-off food delivery driver in NYC, is recruited for a job with an “animal rights organization” that turns out to be a secret society protecting kaiju in an alternate Earth.

I really appreciate Mr. Scalzi and his work.
